. . . .
Greetings! My name is Adriane, I was first introduced to the
Missouri Foxtrotter in 1997. The reason I titled this site TMFT:
A Diamond in the Rough is because while it's a wonderful breed, it's
very small nationwide. Many people, have never even heard of it.
And there is the feeling that it must be unknown because it's not a
breed worth talking about. But it is! Foxtrotters are wonderful horses
and this is my way of helping to promote them as a breed, and best of
all, as the best equine friend you never knew you had.
. . . .
I had never heard of the foxtrotter breed before I met a sweet
three year old gelding named Shadrack's King, and when
I did, I only barely knew what a gaited horse was. A few visions of
Paso Finos, Saddlebreds, and Tennessee Walkers flashed through
my mind but I had heard horror stories about gaited horses, how
they were treated and the abusive training they went through.
. . . .
While it is true that many gaited horses are abused into stepping
higher, trotting smoother, and moving better, it is no more wide spread
than with non-gaited horses, its just made more public. Abuse is
horrifying in any situation and I hope stricter laws are passed in the
prosecuting and punishment of animal/horse abusers. It is sad though,
that such misconceptions about the entire gaited horse world are so
prevalent. Many people tried to get me to give up on King for this reason,
I am so glad I didn't listen . . .
. . . .
Now I am enthralled by this breed and decided to organize a
page with the history, use, and facts about the Missouri Foxtrotter.
I am sure there are many many more pages out there with this information,
but I wanted to do this for myself as much as to contribute to the MFT
Breed's promotion.
Suggestions are welcome to improve it anyway I can. Now, on to the info!
