. . . . Before I knew King, I had never heard of the foxtrotter breed, and when I first saw him, I didn't know whose he was or anything about him. For all I knew he was a $100 lesson horse or a $10,000 show steed. . . . . But I fell in love with this horse the moment I laid eyes on him. He was standing in our stable's one arena and was covered in mud from head to hoof. You couldn't see the color of his coat or even his height, as he was standing fetlock deep in the red dirt (Our arena was redone a few months later with REAL sand!! Woohooo!). But his head looked intelligiant and he was curious and friendly about everything going on around him. He trotted with his tail held high and his ears perked forward, eager to meet someone new. King's vibrant personality had me hooked right then and there. He was so adorable and down right irresistable. . . . . At the time he was three years old and only halter trained. His owner was a staff member at the stable where I rode and worked named Mark. After awhile, I started taking care of King and finally Mark let me ride him. I was not the best of riders (and still have a way to go) and being allowed to help train King was the highlight of my life at that time. I took care of him when I could for three years off and on hoping to someday be able to buy him. . . . . Well, King is now eight years old, and I have now owned him he was six. With the support of my husband, King is truly all mine : ) I hope to get into competitive trail riding with him and build up a true partnership and bond with this wonderful horse. . . . . Depressing Update: As we are a military family, we are assigned new places every two or three years. We have found out that in Feb 03 we are being transferred to Italy. While we are excited about moving to Europe, we do not have the funds to take King with us, so I will have to leave him behind for 3 years. We are NOT selling him however, a friend will care for him until we get back or we win the lottery and ship him over... Stats:
to sit and she joined him! Total Kodak moment :)
